BROOKLYN, NY — A one-story taxi depot on the border of Gowanus and Park Slope might soon be replaced by a 17-story tower, according to records and reports.

Permits were recently filed to bring a new building to the 374 Fourth Ave. lot, which holds a taxi business and parking lot across from Fifth Street, New York YIMBY first reported.

The proposed building would bring 197 units, or 163,696 square feet of residential space, to the lot, according to the outlet. It would also include just over 6,000 square feet of commercial space, a 40-foot side yard and 30 parking spaces.

YIMBY predicts the residential spots will be rentals based on their average 830-square-foot size.

Demolition permits for the one-story building currently on the lot were filed in July, though they are still being processed, according to Department of Building records.

The 374 Fourth Ave. building is the latest development proposed for the Gowanus and Park Slope border.

Developments have also been proposed this year near Carroll Street and by 12th Street, according to YIMBY.

Further down the corridor, in Sunset Park, a 14-story building that caused a debate about affordable housing in the neighborhood is also in the works. That building was approved by City Council back in April.
