Applications Open For Sunset Park Library's Affordable Housing
The long-awaited affordable housing complex atop the new Sunset Park Library is accepting applications on the city's lottery system.

BROOKLYN, NY — Brooklynites can now apply for a spot in the highly-anticipated affordable housing development atop the new Sunset Park Library, records show.
The 51st Street building was added to the city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development's affordable housing lottery on Tuesday, opening applications for 40 units in the eight-story building.
The housing lottery comes nearly three years after officials first kicked off construction on the building, which is spearheaded by The Fifth Avenue Committee.

The project, found near Fourth Avenue, includes fully-affordable housing on the top floors of the new library branch, slated to open this year.
The building includes a shared laundry room, community center, outdoor areas, security cameras, green space and an elevator, according to the listing.

The apartments will be available to those making 30 to 80 percent of the area median income, most for those below 50 percent, meaning they will pay between $500 to $1,000 per month.
The applications that opened this week include rents as low as $524 per month for a studio, $667 per month for a one bedroom, $810 for a two bedroom or $929 for a three-bedroom.
At the highest income bracket, the apartments will cost $1,197 for a studio, $1,509 for a one bedroom, $1,820 for a two bedroom and $2,096 for a three bedroom per month, records show.
Applications for the apartments are due by a Jan. 12 deadline.
