Woman On Citi Bike Fatally Struck By Truck In Gowanus
The death of a 37-year-old woman cyclist Tuesday morning crash at Second Avenue and Ninth Street is still under investigation, police said.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — A woman riding a Citi Bike in Brooklyn was fatally struck by the driver of a truck Tuesday morning, just days after a similar deadly crash in Queens, authorities said.
A 37-year-old woman died in the crash at Ninth Street and Second Avenue in Gowanus, police said. The driver remained at the scene, authorities said.
The woman's death prompted swift online calls by locals to deal with a stretch of Ninth Street without, they argue, sufficient protections for cyclists.

"That stretch is extremely dangerous and always has reckless drivers," tweeted @thisisaleksey.
Details about the crash remained scant hours afterward, but the circumstances bore striking similarities to Jan. 6 fatal collision in Astoria. Both crashes involved women on Citi Bikes who had collided with trucks.

The Gowanus crash unfolded about 7:20 a.m., and police are still investigating exactly what happened, authorities said. They don't know if the driver ran into the woman first or vice versa, police said.
The truck's driver stayed at the intersection while medics and cops arrived to find the woman dead, police said.
