Biker Hit a Pedestrian on Prospect Park's West Lake Drive, Breaking his Hand

A biker riding down Prospect Park’s West Lake Drive allegedly struck a pedestrian and broke the walker's arm this past weekend.  

On Saturday, January 7 at around 4 p.m., a bicyclist allegedly hit a 62-year-old man near the Vanderbilt Street Playground, breaking his hand and sending him to New York Methodist Hospital, police told The Brooklyn Paper.

According to The Paper, the accident occurred where the , which reduced two lanes into one, in an effort to reduce the speed of cyclists riding on the downhill section of the drive after , where  and were both in comas.

Last Saturday’s accident is the second incident that occurred since the DOT’s traffic-calming measures were implanted in November 2011, days before a meeting, where community members, park, city and law enforcement officials discussed how to make the park’s drives safer for all users. 

The last accident happened on December 10, where a bicyclist was riding down West Lake Drive when he suddenly lost control, crashed and suffered head trauma.
