Bill de Blasio Lost $6K On His Park Slope Homes Last Year, Tax Returns Show
The mayor released his tax returns Tuesday, giving a glimpse into his two Park Slope rental properties.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio released his 2016 tax returns on Tuesday, offering a chance to take yet another dig at President Donald Trump. "See, President Trump? It's not that hard," he tweeted, along with a link to the returns.
Overall, the filing was pretty unspectacular. It shows the mayor and his wife, Chirlane McCray, pulled in $220,621 last year and paid $69,523 in total city, state and federal taxes, an effective rate of about 31.5 percent. They gave $2,088 to charity.
But they do provide a window into the mayor's two rental properties he keeps on 11th Street in Park Slope.

De Blasio and McCray own a house at 442 11th St., between Sixth and Seventh avenues, and another a block further east, at 384 11th St. The two properties brought in a combined $106,000 of income for NYC's first couple in 2016, the tax returns show.

But the mayor and his wife actually ended up getting a tax deduction for the properties because of depreciation and other expenses, such as the mortgage interest and taxes.
De Blasio and McCray paid $3,549 in 2016 in property taxes for each property, the returns show. They claimed a $21,831 depreciation on 384 11th St. and a little over $5,139 depreciation on 442, the returns show.
After their other expenses, the couple said the homes incurred more than $110,000 worth of expenses, for a loss of a little over $6,000 on the properties.
