BROOKLYN, NY — A proposal to turn a gas station in Boerum Hill into a new eight-story apartment building has kicked off the public review process this week.

The project — which would build the complex on a group of lots on the corner of Bergen Street and Third Avenue — would bring 24 apartments and 3,500 square feet of commercial space to the corner, which includes a Shell gas station, according to the application and YIMBY.

It faced a hearing with Community Board 2's Land Use Committee on Wednesday.

Owners of the gas station have been considering redeveloping the site since at least 2015, when they floated building a six-story complex at the site, according to reports from the time.

To redevelop the property, they will need to change the zoning of the lots, which are currently in a manufacturing zone, according to city records.

The most recent proposal would include 28,000 square feet, 24,400 of which wold be used for the residential space, according to the application. The complex's address would be 98 Third Ave.
