Celebrate Brooklyn Performancces and Free Carousel Rides Thursday

What's happening in and around Park Slope Thursday.

Good morning, Park Slope. Here’s a look at what’s happening Thursday.

- Today, the carousel in Prospect Park will offer free rides to children 12 years old and younger. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Not able to get to the park today? Not a problem- the deal is on every Thursday through August.

- Starting at 3 p.m., It Takes A Village is hosting "A Yellow Sneaker puppet sing-along," a 45-minute interactive singalong with guitar and puppets, with a combo of original songs, oldies, and traditional children's music.  Sing, dance and shake your sillies out- and come high five the puppets after the show! The puppet show will take place at 500 Prospect Pl., where a donation of $5 - $10 is suggested.

- Director and composer Benh Zeitlin teams up with musical collaborators Dan Romer and Wordless Music Orchestra to recreate his original score to "Beasts of the Southern Wild," for Celebrate Brooklyn! Performed live to a new music- less print created for the occasion, Zeitlin’s magical realist fable is set outside New Orleans. The film became the one of most celebrated indie films of last year, winning countless awards and four Oscar nominations including Best Picture. Head to the Prospect Park Bandshell at Ninth Street and Prospect Park West at 8 p.m. for the performance.
