Co-Working Space Opens In Park Slope

Park Slope Desk gives freelancers and entrepreneurs a place to work in the neighborhood at a reasonable price.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A new co-working space has opened in Park Slope that gives freelancers and entrepreneurs a quiet, collaborative place to work in the neighborhood.

Cosmo Lee, the owner and founder of Park Slope Desk, was working as an independent contractor and found it hard to get work done in coffee shops and cafes.

"It’s just not ideal. There’s distractions, it’s noisy, you’re bumping into people," he told Patch. "There’s this romantic idea of being able to not work at the office and being places like coffee shops, but it just turns out it's not a very productive place. You end up wasting a lot of time."

So he decided to open a place where people like him could come get work done with their own desk space, reliable internet and plenty of power outlets.

"I needed a place that I could get work done, a productive place, and I could see there were lots of other people in the cafes trying to do work," Lee said.

Park Slope Desk, on 11th Street near Seventh Avenue, offers workers either a small or large desk in the 2,500 square-foot office. The desks are in three different rooms that have different environments, for people who'd rather have a more open space or an isolated, focused work area.

The office also has a small kitchen and some conference rooms and phone booths for making calls.

The space has been great, Lee said, even for people who can't concentrate when working from home.

"We have one member really into his fish tank," he said. "And he can’t get work done at home because he’d just get distracted by his fish tank."

Right now, you can get access to a large desk (four feet by two feet) from 8 a.m. until midnight for $350 per month or a small desk (two feet by two feet) for $250 per month.

If you only want evening access, from 5 p.m. until midnight, a large desk will run you $200 per month or just $100 per month for a small.
