Cooling Centers Offer Relief from Brooklyn Heat Wave

Temperatures will reach 95 degrees and show no signs of coming down any time soon.

There's no getting around it: it's hot out. 

Park Slope and the rest of the city-at-large is in the middle of a heat wave, with temperatures reaching 95 degrees and showing no signs of coming down any time soon. 

Few things will provide relief from the heat like the comforts of airconditioning, so if yours is busted or you don't have one, head to one of the city's cooling centers. Patch has compiled a list of nearby community centers and senior centers offering respite from this scorcher: 

  • Park Slope Neighborhood Senior Center: 463A Seventh St. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., for Saturday and Sunday, call 718-832-3726 for hours. Hours of operation may extend during a heat emergency. Wheelchair accessible. 
  • Prospect Hill Senior Services Center: 283 Prospect Ave. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., for Saturday and Sunday hours, call 718-499-9574. Hours of operation may extend during a heat emergency. Wheelchair accessible. 
  • Brooklyn Central Library: 10 Grand Army Plaza. Open Monday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; for Saturday and Sunday hours, call 718-230-2407. Hours will not extend during a heat emergency. Wheelchair accessible. 
  • Wyckoff Gardens Neighborhood Senior Center: 280 Wyckoff St. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., for Saturday and Sunday hours, call 718-237-1802. Hours of operation may extend during a heat emergency. Wheelchair accessible. 
  • Raices Times Plaza Neighborhood Senior Center: 460 Atlantic Ave. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., for Saturday and Sunday hours, call 718-694-0895. Hours of operation may extend during a heat emergency. Wheelchair accessible.
