BROOKLYN, NY — An off-duty NYPD school crossing guard threw an art supply box at a 72-year-old woman in northwest Brooklyn and now faces criminal charges, police said Wednesday.

Concetta Diaz, 47, chucked the art supply box and hit the older woman within the 76th police precinct — which includes Gowanus, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Red Hook — Tuesday about 3:40 p.m., police said.

The box hit the woman in the left leg, bruising her shin, according to the NYPD.
