Dog Stolen In Park Slope Returns Home After Being Found In Bronx

Christopher Mayne was reunited with his dog Zoey on Friday morning after a family found the pooch on the streets of The Bronx.

PARK SLOPE, NY — A dog stolen from her Park Slope home during a break-in has been reunited with her owners after a family found her wandering in the Bronx.

Christopher Mayne and his wife picked up their beloved pooch Zoey, Friday morning after somebody saw a missing poster online and let the owners know they had been caring for the dog since Saturday.

"She was visibly very happy when we approached her, vigorously wagging her tail," said Mayne, 44. "We're elated to have her home."

Zoey went missing on Saturday after a thief broke into Mayne's Union Street apartment and swiped a folding bike, a jar full of change and the dog, police said.

Later that night, a teenage girl was in her neighborhood in the Bronx when she spotted a scared looking, shaking dog walking with two people, Mayne said.

The girl went up to them and asked them about the dog and they told her they were taking her to be euthanized so she convinced them to hand over the pooch, according to Mayne.

The family quickly realized the dog was somebody's pet and posted photos on Facebook asking if anybody knew who she belonged to. Eventually, the mother came across Mayne's missing poster for Zoey and called him Friday morning letting him know they had her.

"We both were in tears when we first saw the pictures," said Mayne. "We were just so happy to see her."

Mayne and his wife borrowed a car and took a 45-minute drive up to the Bronx where they reunited with the pooch they've had for 11-years.

They don't believe the pair who was walking with the dog were the people who broke into their apartment.

Mayne's 2-year-old daughter, who has been asking when Zoey was coming home, hasn't seen her yet but Zoey already reunited with Mayne's other dog Vincent.

"He walked over and sniffed her and just laid back down," Mayne said.
