Eagle Clothes Sign Could Be Restored, U-Haul Exec Says

U-Haul is trying to restore the vintage sign, at a City Councilman's request.

The U-Haul International executive vice president said the company is “willing to spend money” to restore the Eagle Clothes sign that was removed last week, DNAinfo reported Monday.

After City Councilman Brad Lander wrote to U-Haul asking if the sign could be restored to the Third Avenue and Sixth Street building, Stuart Shoen said U-Haul will try its best to keep the sign – or a version of it.

“U-Haul is willing to spend money on [restoring the Eagle Clothes sign], but we drive Fords and Chevys around here, we don't drive Ferraris," Shoen said, adding that the company doesn’t like to spend money on projects unrelated to moving or storage.

U-Haul initially removed the sign because it would have defied city height limits with the building’s planned expansion, as Patch previously reported.
