NEW YORK CITY, NY — Voting may be a private matter, but that doesn’t mean we're not curious about which presidential candidate our neighbors support.
The data crunchers at RentHop.com indulged those curiosities this week by linking campaign donations to New York zip codes and creating an interactive map showing where the six remaining presidential contenders are finding financial support.

Hillary vs. Bernie

Perhaps unsurprisingly, 75 percent of the donations from the zip code encompassing Brooklyn Heights, the home of Hillary Clinton’s campaign headquarters, have gone to the former Secretary of State — totaling more than $413,000.
Things are more competitive to the north in Williamsburg, where Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has taken in about $28,000 to Clinton’s $29,500.
Down on Wall Street, the sums are pretty lopsided: $76,000 for Clinton to Sanders’ $4,200.
Overall, Chelsea residents have given the most to Clinton — $829,000 — while the North Upper West Side is Bernie country, bringing in $76,000 for the Democratic Socialist.
New York does not love The Donald
Just $10,500 has been donated to Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner, from his most lucrative location: the Upper East Side.
Trump’s chief rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, has brought in more than $42,000 from his No. 1 neighborhood backer, Lenox Hill.
And despite his campaign struggles, Florida Senator Marco Rubio has done quite nicely in Midtown East, whose denizens have donated more than $106,000 to his campaign.
Keeping the money in perspective
If any of this is upsetting to you, don’t call the movers just yet. Remember: Contribution totals don’t necessarily correlate with the number of individuals giving money to a candidate.
For example, Clinton’s haul in Chelsea came from 532 donors, while Cruz’s Lenox Hill cash came from just 15 folks. And Trumps total New York take — about $209,000 — has been donated by 404 residents.
Finally, if money could speak, then the Upper East Side has been raising a ruckus so far this election, to the tune of $1.23 million in cumulative donations.
