Why Go: As part of The Very Good Coffeehouse Concert Series, Angela Lockhart, poet, singer and playwright, will read her poetry while the The Saltire Ensemble, a Brooklyn-based group, will play the violin, the cello and the double bass.

Why Go: Come see an 11-member group play a mixture of traditional Afro-Colombian rhythms, rock and punk-jazz. M.A.K.U. SoundSystem is composed of clarinet, trombone, sax, guitarra, and Latin percussion.

Where/When: , Saturday at 9:45 a.m.

Why Go: Take a tour with wild edible and medicinal plant expert Leda Meredith through out the park and find out how to identify edibles in the urban terrain.

Why Go: Every Saturday night, the Brooklyn Lyceum hosts Gentrify Brooklyn Comedy, an evening showcasing some of the city’s most talented improvisers, stand-ups, and sketch comedians. It’s side-splitting fun, but light on the wallet.

Why Go: Come see the 1982 science fiction horror film "The Thing," directed by John Carpenter.
