Home of the "Couple That Saved Park Slope" Hits Market at $4.8 Million

Evelyn and Everett Ortner are widely known as the "Couple That Saved Park Slope" or the "Original Gentrifiers", and following the passing of Everett Ortner last year, their historic home has hit the market at a cool $4.8 million.

According to a report on Brownstoner.com, the home, located at 272 Berkeley Place, was built in 1886 and has rental spaces in the front rooms of the third and fourth floors (with one occupant currently living there). 

It features its original furnace, original gas fixtures and a handicap elevator dating back to the 1920's. The painting in the front hall also dates back to when it was built in 1886, 

According to Evelyn Ortner's obituary in The New York Times, the Ortners bought the home in 1963. In '68, they helped found the Brownstone Revival Committee, now known as the Brownstone Revival Coalition, a citywide preservation organization.
