New Gym Featuring DJ, Local Art Opens In Park Slope

Patch got a look inside "Beast Fitness Evolved" on Fifth Avenue.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A new gym has opened in Park Slope that will offer high-intensity workouts set to DJ music and surrounded by work from local artists.

Founder Nik Barricelli, who was born in Park Slope, took Patch on a recent tour around the newly opened space, on Fifth Avenue near 10th Street. The gym had a grand opening on Saturday with a celebration that included smoothies from Juiceland on Ninth Street.

The gym only offers one "high intensity interval training class," an uptempo workout that will very from class to class.

"We do one class here. There aren’t different classes here. It's a high intensity interval training class that’s custom created by two of our top trainers," Barricelli told Patch. "If you came for 30 days straight you wouldn't do the same thing twice."

Those classes take place in a room manned by a live DJ who will spin tunes during the workout.

Customers walking in the front door are met by a wall of pictures of famous Brooklynites.

In the lobby, a coffee bar will offer some caffeinated post-workout options instead of a standard smoothie or energy bar.

"Instead of doing protein shakes and juices, we wanted to do a coffee bar, where you can have a protein-infused cold brew," Barricelli said. "It’s a custom recipe we came up with."

Four private bathrooms give customers a luxe way to rinse off after a tough workout, a stark comparison to cramped, shared shower space in some gyms.

A single class costs $34, and when you buy your first one, you get a second free. Classes are also sold in bundles of up to 20 at a time.
