New Park Slope Building Is NYC's 1st Timber Condominium
The six-story Timber House on Union Street was constructed with pre-cut materials, like a "piece of Ikea furniture," the condo's site says.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A new Park Slope condo building goes against — and with — the grain.
The newly finished six-story Timber House is the city's first condominium made of timber, according to its site.
Wood grain pervades the building's construction, from its glue-laminated timber building materials to the 11-foot wood-beamed ceilings, the site states.

Mass timber materials are environmentally sustainable and have been used in Europe for more than two decades, but are new to New York City, the Timber House's site states.
The materials were pre-cut and assembled on-site, much like a large-scale "piece of Ikea furniture," the building's site states.
"Building in mass timber offers several advantages over typical steel and concrete — as a beautiful, clean, and more environmentally sustainable alternative," the website states.
The building's 14 units range from studios to one-, two- and three-bedrooms, Building Design + Construction reported. Prices run from $595,000 to $4 million, according to the report.
