Park Slope Cyclist Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver

A 41-year-old bicycling down 9th Street early Sunday morning was struck by a vehicle as he crossed 5th Avenue, police say.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A man biking through the intersection of 9th Street and 5th Avenue in central Park Slope was killed by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday morning.

The 41-year-old victim was riding west on 9th at about 5 a.m. when he was hit by a car that ran a red light, police said. The driver then fled the scene, traveling south on 5th Avenue.

Emergency responders found the victim unconscious with severe trauma to his body, according to police. He was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital.

The identity of the victim had not be released as of late Monday morning, police said.

A video of the vehicle that allegedly hit the cyclist was released by the NYPD Monday. It is described as a late-model, four-door Nissan Altima that is light brown or tan in color. The vehicle’s rear bumper is damaged, and its passenger-side headlight and fog light do not work, according to the NYPD.

An investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, police said.
