Park Slope Serial Burglar Gets Up To 4 Years In Prison

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A serial burglar dubbed the "Teflon Con" by the tabloids won't be able to indulge his penchant for pilfering from his Park Slope neighbors for a spell.

Charles Wold, 59, received a two- to four-year prison sentence Monday, prosecutors announced.

Prosecutors had pushed for a longer sentence of nine to 18 years in prison given Wold's dozens of past burglary arrests that have been chronicled in the New York Post. But, despite the shorter-than-requested sentence, Wold's neighbors will be protected at least for his prison term, said Eric Gonzalez, Brooklyn's district attorney.

"This defendant is a serial burglar who has shown that he will continue to invade other people’s property if he remains at large, necessitating this prison sentence," he said in a statement.

Wold told the Post that he's a heroin addict who steals to feed his addiction. The tabloid tried to make him a poster boy for the state's new bail reform laws, which its editors have argued lead to increased crime in the city — an assessment that many advocates dispute.

The burglaries that ultimately put Wold behind bars largely centered around restaurants and delis in his home neighborhood of Park Slope, prosecutors said. Wold had stolen thousands of dollars of cash, electronics and damaged several businesses, authorities said.

The incidents were, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office:

• Simply Sweet, located at 2106A Avenue U, in Sheepshead Bay, on Oct. 5, 2021.
• Hipster Deli, located at 168 Seventh Ave., in Park Slope, on Nov. 28, 2021.
• Park Slope Ale House, located at 356 Sixth Ave., on Dec. 7, 2021.
• Just Salad, 252 Seventh Ave., in Park Slope, on Dec. 5, 2021.
• Tava Turkish and Mediterranean Restaurant, 318 Fifth Ave., in Park Slope, Dec. 5, 2021.
• 390 Social Bar and Restaurant, 390 Fifth Ave., in Park Slope, on Dec. 30, 2021.
• Blue Collar Burger, 187 Court St., in Cobble Hill, on Jan. 6, 2022
