Throwback Saturday: Spring Gardening On Third Street

Taken in May 1973, this photo shows a young mother planting her spring garden in front of her house on Third Street near Prospect Park. 

The Brooklyn of the 1970s was monumentally different than the Brooklyn of today. In the earlier part of the decade, the Bronx and Brooklyn had similar household incomes, the New York Times reported – now, the average Brooklyn resident is 23 percent richer than the average Bronx resident.
