Dead Body Found Floating In Patchogue River

BREAKING: Police have identified the man whose body was found in the river Thursday night.

PATCHOGUE, NY – The body 30-year-old man was found floating in the Patchogue River Thursday night, police said.

Officers, responding to a 911 call, discovered the body of Salvatore C. Deforca, of Patchogue, floating in the river near the end of Crescent Street at about 8:10 p.m. Officers from the Marine Bureau responded to assist with the recovery of the body.

The death does not appear to be criminal in nature, police said, but Homicide Squad detectives are continuing to investigate.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
