Susan G. Koman for the Cure and Verizon team to bring service to local women.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer awareness organization is teaming with Verizon to raise awareness of the disease and help provide Patchogue and Medford residents with free mammography exams.
On Tuesday, Verizon will host the Project Renewal Scan Van mobile screening unit at the company’s location at 501 North Ocean Ave. Those interested in making an appointment should call 800-564-6868.
Project Renewal is one of the 39 Komen Greater NYC grantees during 2011-12. The group provides uninsured women with free exams.

“Breast cancer knows no boundaries, which is why it’s important for all of us to team up and fight it on all fronts,” said Susan Retta, vice president of Marketing with Verizon.
The Scan Van is part of the effort by Verizon and Komen for the Cure to further raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection in fighting the disease. Verizon is also a sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure, set for Sept. 18 in Central Park.
