
A Long Island Rail Road struck a person on the tracks Thursday evening, the railroad said.
The train involved was the 5:09 p.m. from Penn Station due in Speonk at 7:13 p.m. It struck a person east of Bellport.
LIRR service is currently suspended between Patchogue and Montauk in both directions. Emergency personnel are on scene.

"Based on previous experience, we anticipate it will take up to three hours to restore full service," the railroad said in a tweet. "We are working to secure buses. Customers who can, consider using the Ronkonkoma Branch as an alternative."
