Man Dies In Patchogue Bay
The man appeared to suffer a medical event after jumping off a boat to go swimming early Saturday, police say.
A 52-year-old man man died after he jumped off a boat to go swimming in Patchogue Bay early Saturday, police said.
According to Suffolk Police, James Melocoton, of Farmingville, was boating with friends in the bay when he and another person jumped off the boat to go swimming around 1:10 a.m.
Melocoton appeared to suffer a medical event and became unresponsive, police said. Melocoton’s friends were unable to pull him out of the water. A friend called 911 and officers from the Marine Bureau responded and removed Melocoton from the water. Melocoton was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.
