Patchogue Man Kickstarting Visual History of The Pixies
Hardcover visual history of the band needs $150,000 to fund the project.
Sean T. Rayburn, a Patchogue resident, is hoping to put together a visual history of the band, The Pixies, and needs community support to make the project happen.
Rayburn, who started PixiesMusic.com as a fan site with Ray Dolber in 2004, has taken to the crowd-funding site Kickstarter to try to get this publishing project off the ground.
Rayburn needs to raise $150,000 to fund the hardcover book, and as of this writing he is currently at $114,327. As per Kickstarter rules, he will have until June 6 for the project to be fully funded or the money will go back to the 1,078 people that have backed the project so far.
Rayburn, whose fansite has since become the band’s official website and works on their Facebook Page, says on his Kickstarter page that there has been a large response to “vintage” photos of the band on Facebook, which led him into the idea of making a hardcover, coffee table sized book of the photos. Additionally, Rayburn said he would want to reach out to the original photographers that worked with the band in the 1980s and 1990s to revisit their work with the band, and make it available for the first time in the hardcover.
Rayburn also wrote that the high costs to make a book are why Kickstarter is necessary to fund it.
“To make this a great project, I am meeting with hundreds of people from all over the world, people who have worked with the band, labels and press and managers, and roadies and fans,” Rayburn wrote. He also plans to meet with the band members, their families and anyone else connected with The Pixies.
Rayburn envisions the project to span the band’s history starting from 1985.
Incentives for those who would like to support the project include photographs, postcards, copies of the finished book up to limited edition personalized proof copies.
