Patchogue Residents Enjoy Waterfront's New Lighthouse
The newly erected lighthouse, part of a larger revival effort, draws locals to Sandspit Marina.

Patchogue, NY— As part of the overall effort to revitalize parts of Patchogue, the Sandspit Marina is undergoing a dramatic makeover that residents are appreciating. The Patchogue Lighthouse, completed this past summer, is part of a larger renovation project at the marina, including a rebuilt jetty that was previously damaged and leaking. The 22-foot-tall lighthouse is solar powered and has a practical purpose as well as a scenic one, guiding recreational sailors and Fire Island ferry captains in and out of the Patchogue River. Residents are enjoying the scenic new addition to Patchogue's bayfront, with the lighthouse quickly becoming a local landmark.
Alan Zollo and Kristy Longman, both long-time Patchogue residents, even had their engagement photos taken in front of the new structure. The couple chose the spot because "We both love the water, we live in Patchogue and love the community," Zollo told Patch. "We spend a lot of time at Davis Park in the summer and the ferry goes right by this lighthouse. It also was new and unique." Zollo thinks the lighthouse is a finishing touch to all the efforts he's seen over the years to improve Patchogue.
The renovation efforts will continue at the marina, with a fishing pier slated to be built next year. The projects are jointly financed by state funds, as well as by Brookhaven Township and Patchogue Village.
