Here are the top stories in Patchogue today:
- A passenger in a vehicle that crashed into a pole on the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead died Sunday, according to the New York State Police. The vehicle was going westbound at about 1:15 p.m. on the Southern State, west of exit 22, when it left the roadway and struck the pole. The driver and two passengers were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. A third passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries. A fourth passenger was also taken to a hospital, and died from injuries sustained in the crash. State police ask anyone who witnessed the crash or have information about it to call 631-763-3300. (Newsday)
- Over the last few years, the Town of Brookhaven has invested about $1.5 million into the revitalization of Sandspit Marina with the addition of a new bulkhead, pavement and a renovated ferry building, with plans for an additional $400,000-plus for paving next year.
Earlier this month, according to Neil Foley, the bathrooms were demolished and will be rebuilt in about three to four months, well before the spring season. The bathrooms will be open to the public at the ferry terminal. (Long Island Advance) - Toys for Tots Drop Off: Patchogue Village Hall is an official drop off for the U.S. Marine Reserve's Toys for Tots drive. Bring your new, unwrapped toys to the clerk's office through Dec. 8. (Village Of Patchogue)
- Thousands of people flocked to Main Street in Sayville on Saturday to soak in the triumphant comeback of what is perhaps the community’s most treasured traditions: ‘Miracle on Main.’
The event, back at full strength after the Greater Sayville of Commerce hosted a scaled back “mini” version in 2020 due to the pandemic, went off without a hitch. Kicking off with a holiday parade, the daylong event featured a mini ice-skating rink, a Gingerbread House competition, live music, dance performances, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, plenty of amusements for children and, of course, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. (Greater Long Island)
