YAPHANK, NY — A group of Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs from the department's Proactive Impaired Driving Effort Team were honored at a Mothers Against Drunk Driving NYS Law Enforcement Recognition Event in Albany.
Deputy Sheriff Damian Adams was also honored for making the most driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence arrests in 2022.
The number of arrests for last year was not immediately available.

In the first three months of 2023, SPIDRE made nearly 50 alcohol-and drug-related arrests, with seven of those people being charged with aggravated DWI indicating a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.18 and higher — more than double the legal limit.
They also made 25 other arrests during DWI patrols, including four stolen/unauthorized use of vehicles, one outstanding warrant, and four counts of reckless driving.

SPIDRE is a grant-funded unit comprising specially trained deputy sheriffs, including Drug Recognition Experts. Since its inception in 2015, the has made over one thousand drunk or drugged driving-related arrests.
