Here are the top stories in Patchogue today:
- Both cuisines, American and Ecuadorian, are woven together at Tiesto’s Restaurant in Patchogue, which opened earlier this fall in the space that formerly held the Blue Goose. "He’s always had this dream," Ivonne Castro said of her father opening his own place. Castro started bussing at Painters as a teenager, and has spent her career in the restaurant industry. Now she and her sister, Jessica Marin, work multiple front-of-house roles at Tiesto’s, where the menu represents a fusion of gastropub fare with Mexican, Spanish and Ecuadoran dishes. (Newsday)
- Brookhaven officials have approved a $316.8 million budget for next year that raises taxes 1.89 percent and restores three dozen jobs trimmed to cut costs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Town officials have said the budget will help restart or reopen senior citizens programs and recreation centers closed last year amid a wave of precautions taken in the early months of the pandemic. (Newsday) - Shirley residents had been waiting on the edge on their bucket seats for this. The hamlet’s new Sonic kicked on the grill Saturday and officially opened for business. Gleeful customers filled the eatery’s 20-car drive-in lot for lunch and dinner rushes. For those unfamiliar with the Sonic chain or the drive-in concept, vehicles pull into stalls and drivers order their meals on the screen before them. Then, servers carrying trays of burgers, fries and shakes zip out of the building on roller skates to deliver the meals. (Greater Long Island)
- Downtown Sayville once again is set to transform into a winter wonderland. This year marks the town’s 15th annual Miracle on Main Street event, presented by the Greater Sayville Chamber Of Commerce. On Saturday, Nov. 27, Sayville residents and beyond can enjoy a plethora of holiday-themed activities, all while supporting the local businesses on Main Street. The pandemic last year forced the community to scale back the festive event, calling it “Mini-Miracle on Main.” But this year, it’s back at full strength! (Greater Long Island)
