The Bookstaber House was originally commissioned by World War II veteran Henry Bookstaber and his wife, Ingeborg. The design was a collaboration between Bookstaber and Tafel, who brainstormed when they were stationed in India together during the war. The design "reflects a deep, personal vision of modern domestic life."

The home was updated by its current owners, who purchased the property directly from the Bookstaber family.
