BLAUVELT, NY – New York Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive on Sunday, June 25th from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at St. Catharine’s Church in Blauvelt. This blood drive will honor 89-year-old blood donor, Anna Stellwag, as she reaches her 64th blood donation. Anna is a life-long blood donor, who has continued to support the mission of NYBC for many years. NYBC will present Anna with an award at the blood drive, to recognize her dedication to saving lives.

The unprecedented health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a loss of blood donations, including more than 20,000 high school blood donations each year. Hospitals and patients rely upon a steady flow of volunteer donors to receive life-saving donations, but blood donations still have not returned to pre-pandemic levels. One blood donation has the ability to save up to three lives.

Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted eligibility restrictions for individuals who lived in Europe during certain periods of time. To view current eligibility guidelines, visit nybc.org or call 800.688.0900.

WHEN: Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

WHERE: St. Catharine’s Church, 517 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY 10913

Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.

To make an appointment at this blood drive, donors can call 1-800-933-2566 or visit this link. Can’t donate blood? You can still support NYBC’s mission by texting ‘NYBC’ to ‘20222’ to give $25.
