The ceremony is set for 7 p.m. tonight at Orangetown Town Hall.

The Town of Orangetown will honor this year’s Youth Court Graduates 7 p.m. today at Orangetown Town Hall.

The graduates, all students between 13 and 19 years old, must complete a program teaching them how the law works. Then they begin a two-year commitment to serve on the Orangetown Youth Court.

For a full description of the Orangetown Youth Court, go here. The court is an alternative to the criminal justice system. The court holds hearings for young people who have admitted their guilt, allowing them to be judged and sentenced by a peer judge. Members of the youth court rotate among the roles of judge, prosecutor, defender and clerk/bailiff.
