Pearl River's McCarthy Blanks Nanuet
Pearl River pitcher Mandy McCarthy struck out 11 in the shutout as the Pirates beat Nanuet, 1-0, Saturday.

Deirdre O'Malley drove in Erin Woods to give Pearl River the only run it would need in the bottom of the first inning of Saturday's home game against Nanuet.
Junior pitcher Mandy McCarthy struck out 13 and walked three in a five-hit shutout, leading Pearl River to a 1-0 victory.
McCarthy contributed two of Pearl River's 12 hits. Katherine Gilbride and Alexa Murphy each went 2-for-3 with a double. Shortstop Sam Alicandri and Katherine Gilbride had two hits for Pearl River (6-2-1).

Nanuet pitcher Natasha Castello held Pearl River to one run in six innings, walking none. Junior Janine Mackey went 2-for-2 for the Golden Knights (6-3).
Pearl River's next game is 4:30 p.m. Monday at Tappan Zee. Nanuet will play at home against Nyack 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
