Pearl River goalkeeper Pat Guerin made a save in the final seconds to preserve the shutout, but the Pirates' had long ago put away a 4-0 victory at home against Albertus Magnus Wednesday.
"We wanted to dominate the game," Pearl River senior Chris Coughlan said. "We got three in the first half and did exactly what we wanted to do."
Seniors Coughlan, Brian Maher and Taylor Rudloff scored first-half goals, with freshman Kevin Doorley adding one in the second half. Brian Chiarello, Tony Ortega, Ethan Dowie and Kevin Murphy had assists for the Pirates, who controlled play well enough that Guerin only had to make two saves.
"We have so much faith in every single one of our defenders," said Coughlan, a standout defender in his own right who has moved up to play a larger role on offense this season. "The back four and Pat Guerin in goal have been doing really well this year. WE kinda do expect it from them."
Pearl River is now 10-1-1 heading into Friday's game at Tappan Zee, a 7:30 p.m. start. The team will then play at Lakeland 7 p.m. Monday in the final contest of the 10-team Rockland vs. Westchester challenge to benefit breast cancer awareness. The Pirates were ranked No. 15 in the state in Class A in the most recent New York State Sportswriter's Association poll, behind only Briarcliff among Section 1 teams.
"Our younger guys are starting to really come along and really starting to play well," Pearl River Head Coach Damon O'Keefe said. "But really, it's about leadership. Our leaders here are outstanding."
