PEARL RIVER, NY — Dwight D. Eisenhower famously said, "Politics ought to be the part-time profession of every citizen who would protect the rights and privileges of free people."

There are plenty of upcoming chances to help tend to our democracy close to the roots. Several public meetings are scheduled for this week that affect Pearl River.

NB: The Pearl River Board of Education meeting for Tuesday is canceled; the trustees will meet instead at 9:15 p.m. May 16 after the polls close for the annual budget vote and school board election.
