3 Ticketed For Illegal Fishing In Westchester

CORTLANDT, NY — A patrol along the shores of the Hudson River in Westchester County netted three people who were not fishing according to the rules of New York state.

A New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officer pulled into a popular kayaking launch at the mouth of Annsville Creek.

He said he saw two men standing in a pavilion with two white 5-gallon buckets and a large garbage bag.

The officer approached the anglers as they moved briskly toward a vehicle driven by a third individual and stopped the group before they could take off.

A compliance check was conducted by the officer.

He said he discovered 301 pumpkinseed, eight bluegill, three red breast sunfish, 30 white perch, five brown bullhead, three Atlantic silverside, a gizzard shad, a golden shiner and a banded killifish.

The officer said the fish were all illegally caught with a cast net.

He issued the group eight tickets for taking fish by means other than angling, possessing more than the daily limit of sunfish and fishing without a license.

All tickets are returnable to the Town of Cortlandt Court.
