Health Summit Scheduled Saturday

Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Peekskill is partnering with Hudson River Health Care and local organizations to present the Project HOPE Health Summit 2012 on Saturday,  Oct. 13  to be held at 27 N. Division Street at the Westchester Community College Peekskill Extension. The Health Summit is a informative, interactive, FREE, health and wellness community event that offers the following: 

  • Dramatic-comedy presentation on today’s issues: Politics, Healthcare & Hair care

  • Wellness workshops, Food & Tai Chi demonstrations with special guest speakers

  • Medical screening & counseling for cholesterol, blood pressure and prostate cancer

  • Opportunities to discuss how the Affordable Care Act & other resources benefit you

  • Continental breakfast & a chance to win a $250 Apple gift card for those who pre-register (must be present to win).

  • The public is welcome to attend, doors open at 9:30 am; medical screenings are on a first come, first served basis from 9:30 am - 1 pm.  The Health Summit Planning Committee includes the African American Men of Westchester, Grassroots Natural Medicine, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. New Rochelle-White Plains Alumni Chapter, Passage to Excellence/Fit For Life Corp at Bethel Baptist Church, Peekskill Youth Bureau, Westchester Community College Peekskill Extension, Brother to Brother Ministry at Mt Olivet Baptist Church  and Hudson River HealthCare.

    The Project HOPE Health Summit coincides with 2012 Men’s Convocation hosted by the Brother to Brother Ministry at Mt Olivet Baptist Church in Peekskill, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Adolphus C. Lacey, Senior Pastor.  The Men’s Convocation weekend will begin on Friday, October 12, at 7 pm with a light dinner reception and at 8 PM, a Male only worship service.  The Friday evening Guest Celebrant is Rev. Kanyere Eaton, Pastor of the  Fellowship Covenant Church, Bronx. The festivities culminate on Sunday, October 14, at 7:45 am and 10:45 am, a worship service will be held that will challenge and inspire men, women and children, with guest celebrant Rev. Sherwyn James of Allen AME Cathedral, Jamaica.

    Project HOPE is a faith-based health promotion effort, organized by Hudson River HealthCare with support from  the Westchester Community Foundation, a nonprofit community endowment for the benefit of Westchester County. The Westchester Community Foundation mission is to develop and manage philanthropic resources, and to distribute them in a way that is responsive to donor interests and community needs—which includes support for health education, outreach and advocacy. The Foundation actively promotes charitable giving on behalf of the area’s nonprofit organizations. WCF is a division of The New York Community Trust, one of the largest community foundation in the country with assets of approximately $1.8 billion.
