Verplanck Mourns Frederick P. Johannsen

From the Verplanck Residents Association: Verplanck lost a great member of our community Frederick P. Johannsen. Fred is a founding member of the Verplanck Waterfront Preservation Committee and a long-time activist for the protection of the Hudson River and enhancement of Verplanck.

Fred died on Monday, April 30, 2012. He was the owner of the Viking Boat Yard in Verplanck, NY. Mr. Johannsen graduated from Peekskill high school in 1955 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 - 1961. He was the son of Emil and Agnes Johannsen of Peekskill, NY and was the father of two sons, Erik (deceased) and Einar.

He is survived by his wife, Molly Johannsen, his son Einar Johannsen, brother Dennis Johannsen, sister Peggy Anne Hennessy, daughter in law Melissa Johannsen, and four beautiful granddaughters, Kami, Paige, Emma, and Maggie. He will be remembered as a great father, husband, brother, and most of all a hard worker who was always willing to work more than a day for a days pay.

Visitation will be held at the Cortlandt Funeral Home Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Fred's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
