Congratulations Virginia Rederer, Public Scoping on Firehouse, Peekskill BOE
Here are five things you need to know today, March 6.

1. Congratulations to Women of Distinction
The nominated Virgina Rederer as their to be honored by Senator Greg Ball. The ceremony was held last night and celebrated Virginia’s contributions to society.
Sheila Guida and Marie Turner are the two women that the Town of Cortlandt nominated and they will be honored at the March 13 Cortlandt Town Board meeting. Peekskill nominated the Founding Mothers of the Peekskill Area Health Center. The date of their ceremony is yet to be determined.

2. Fire House Public Scoping Session
The Peekskill City staff will hold a public scoping session on the proposed central firehouse tonight at 7 p.m. in the Common Council chambers. The public is welcome to attend. Read more about the project and the session .

3. Vote for Best Pet Groomer
In this week’s Reader’s Choice, we are asking you to Vote in our poll and tell us why you like your groomer in the comments. The winner will be announced at 12 p.m. Friday and win a Reader’s Choice certificate from Patch. As of Monday afternoon, Buchanan's was in the lead.Â
4. Strategic Economic Development Presentation at Chamber
Peekskill’s Economic Development Director James Slaughter will give a presentation to Chamber of Commerce members from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight.
5. Peekskill Board of Education
The Peekskill BOE will meet at 7 p.m. in the Administration building to discuss several topics, including Uriah Hill, alternative education, special education cost analysis and the 2012-2013 budget. Here is the agenda.
