The Town of Cortlandt will celebrate its 225th anniversary this year with an afternoon and evening of fun, food and fireworks Sunday, July 28, 2013, at George’s Island County Park in Montrose, Town of Cortlandt.

Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi, who chairs the 18-member organizing committee, said the celebration will have “the atmosphere of a community picnic.” Admission is free.
The tentative schedule shows the celebration beginning at 3 pm. with a parade of youth groups, veterans and civic organizations the parking lot to the main picnic area, followed by a brief welcoming ceremony.
Vendors will offer a variety of foods and non-alcoholic beverages. Souvenirs of the event will be on sale. Civic organizations are being invited to set up tables, distribute literature and sell merchandise. Games will occupy another part of the park. Music will be provided throughout the celebration by a DJ and some local combos and bands. The celebration will conclude with fireworks!
“Bring your beach chair or a blanket and have a picnic!” Supervisor Puglisi urged residents.
Free parking will be available at the Cortlandt train station, with shuttle buses running between the station and George’s Island. The park’s boat ramp will be closed for the day and no swimming will be permitted. We thank Westchester County Government and Metro North for their cooperation.
Committee members, who have been meeting monthly since Feb. 6th, represent a broad spectrum of town government staff and community groups. In addition to Supervisor Puglisi and Councilman Frank Farrell, they are
Rosemary Boyle-Lasher, Jeff Canning, Jeff Coleman, Jim Creighton, Tony Fareed, Shari Gordon, Holly Haight, Marc Hiltsey, Michael Huvane, Karen McIntyre, John Palmiotto, Sharon Palmiotto, Judi Peterson, Tracy Straub, Mike Vaccaro and Claudia Vahey. We thank them for their volunteer efforts and dedication to make this a spectacular event for Cortlandt.
