Stolen Credit Card
Police arrested 45-year-old Joseph Johnson for the theft and unauthorized use of a credit card. Johnson allegedly withdrew approximately $1,200 from the victim’s bank account without permission and was charged following an investigation by Peekskill Det. Gallaher. He was charged with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and was held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court.

Arrested for Selling Crack to Cop While Already in Jail
City of Peekskill Police Narcotics investigators closed out an eight-month long investigation conducted jointly with the New York State Police with the arrest of James Smith, 52, on Monday. Smith, a Peekskill resident, who was incarcerated in the Westchester County Jail for an unrelated charge, is accused of selling crack cocaine to an undercover police officer in Peekskill on several occasions during the summer of 2011. He was charged with third degree criminal sale of controlled substance, a felony on Feb. 27 at 12:35 p.m. He was arraigned on the new charge and remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail.

Police Wake Sleeping Driver, He Drives Off Drunk
Police observed Manual Muy, a 43-year-old Peekskill resident, sleeping in the driver’s seat of his vehicle while stopped at a green light on S. Division St. on Feb. 26 at 5:35 p.m. Peekskill Sgt. John White banged on the vehicle window and Muy woke up and drove away. The Sgt. was able to stop Muy on the 1000 block of Park St. and determined he was intoxicated. Muy refused to submit to a chemical test to determine his BAC. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Muy was later released on $250.00 cash bail. He is due to appear in Peekskill City Court on March 8 at 11 a.m.
Drunk Driver Leaves Scene of Accident
Officers were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident on the 400 block of Washington St. and found three vehicles involved on Feb. 24 at 11:10 p.m. The driver of one of the vehicles involved fled the scene and was located on the 500 block of Washington St. Further investigation revealed the individual who fled, Alberto Velasquez, a 34-year-old Peekskill resident, was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Police took him into custody and found to be operating with a BAC of .22%. He was charged with DWI; Leaving the Scene of an Accident, a violation; Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a misdemeanor. It was later learned that the owner of the vehicle Velasquez was driving, had not given him permission to use it leading to the additional charge of Unauthorized Use. Velasquez was held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court.
