Fresh, Organic, Healthy and Delicious Offerings at Farmers Market Expand

Several new vendors are joining the diverse group of farmers and artisanal craftsman that have made the Peekskill Farmer's Market one of the longest running and successful markets in the Hudson Valley. 

The 22-year-old Peekskill Farmers Market will now offer fresh fish and cheese in addition to the fresh produce and meat, organic baked goods, homemade pickles and more it has offered in the past. This year it will run every Saturday from June 9 until November from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Bank Street. 

Among the new vendors participating this year are a “fresh never frozen” locally caught seafood from the Seatuck Fish Company, grass-fed beef and pork from Kiernan Farms, and prize winning New York State cheese from the Cooperstown Cheese Company. In addition, the market expansion plan includes entertainment to help make a visit to the market a pleasure for the whole family instead of a chore, highlighting local downtown businesses so shoppers are encouraged to support the types of small businesses that make communities stronger, and partnering with local community organizations to provide nutritional education and cooking tips.

"The Peekskill Farmers Market helps introduce (or re-introduce) people to all that downtown Peekskill has to offer - small local businesses that carry things you won't find in big box stores, amazing restaurants and cafes, loads of talented artists and musicians, and a downtown where knowing your neighbor still matters - plus plenty of free parking", explained Jason Angell, Executive Director of the Peekskill Business Improvement District (BID), which sponsors the weekly market.

"We support the Peekskill Farmers Market because not only does it help local businesses, but it makes our downtown a healthier community that increases the well-being of all," said BID Board Member Jeanette Phillips, Chair of the BID's Farmers Market Committee.
