Havranek: Nelson is ‘An Incredible Professional, She Will Be Missed’
The city will begin a search for a replacement for Bernis Nelson, the Corporation Counsel whose resignation takes effect June 26.

Acting City Manager Brian Havranek would not comment on the reason for Corporation Counsel Bernis Nelson’s seemingly sudden , but spoke very highly of her and her work.
“I will say she will be missed. She was an incredible professional who put in 12 to 14 hour days of the norm. She has an impeccable reputation and high integrity,” Havranek told Patch.
Now the city will need to begin the same process they went through a year and a half ago when the Acting Corporation Counsel Janet Insardi left her position with the city.

City officials will run and add on law association publications seeking someone with experience in municipal law and not just private practice, Havranek said.
Havranek will create a committee of staff members that have the most interaction with the law department to help evaluate candidates. Ultimately, a City Council resolution will be necessary to authorize the hiring of a new attorney.
