Hen Hud Honors Star Athletes, Talks Budget

The Hendrick Hudson School District athletic director honored students; explained the department's proposed $500,000 budget for 2012-2013.

Athletic Director Thomas Baker honored 13 student-athletes who have excelled in their sports and academics at the Feb. 8 Board of Education meeting. Many of the athletes have achieved top scores and have been courted by top colleges and universities. Some have received honors in several sports.

Baker also reviewed some statistics that show the benefit of offering a strong sports program. He explained that student athletes perform at a higher academic level than their classmates. The average GPA of HHHS athletes is 87 percent, compared to 84 percent GPAs of non-athletes, Baker said. More than 50 percent of HHHS students are involved in school sports.

"I am proud of these students every day," Baker said.
