Indian Point Sirens to Sound Tuesday

The sirens at Indian Point will sound, and be audible in Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, for a test between 10:30 and 11 a.m. Tuesday (June 4).

"Because this is only a test, no response by the public is necessary during the siren sounding," Entergy Corp., the company that runs Buchanan's Indian Point Energy Center, said in a press release.

The test is expected to last about four minutes, and the siren system will sound at full volume.

Entergy Corp. issued this reminder to the public:

"Sirens are not a signal to evacuate. In an actual emergency the sirens would sound to alert the public to tune in to a local EAS radio or television station for important information and direction. These stations are listed in the emergency planning booklet mailed to households and businesses in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone around Indian Point. An electronic version of the booklet is posted on the Indian Point web site www.safesecurevital.com. Additional information on Indian Point emergency planning can be found on the New York State Office of Emergency Management web site."
