Joseph George Rappa, of Mohegan Lake, Dies at 91

Joseph George Rappa of Mohegan Lake and formerly of White Plains passed away on Oct. 7. He was 91. 

Rappa was born in White Plains on June 22, 1922 to the late Rosario and Frances Rappa. Affectionately known as George to all who knew him, he served his country proudly in the Army during World War II. Upon returning from the Army in 1945, he married the love of his life, Mary Orlando on Jan. 20, 1946 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in White Plains.

At the same time Rappa went to “help his father” at the family wholesale produce business just for a short time, well, 50 years later he retired from that same family business. 

He was a beloved husband of Mary; loving father of Roy Rappa and Georgette (Arnie) Spindler; cherished grandfather of Darren, Renee, Kelley and Keith and great grandfather of five.

Rappa was predeceased by his brothers Eddie and Nunzio Rappa and his sisters Mary Bagnato and Jennie Vumbico. He will be remembered as a dedicated family man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 11 from 4 p.m. to  8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday also at the funeral home. Interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
