Last Minute Christmas Gifts: 3 Book Ideas from Peekskill Shop

If you're looking to get some last minute Christmas shopping done locally, Bruised Apple Books in Peekskill has plenty of options that would make great gifts.

The store carries hundreds of volumes, covering everything from hiking, with plenty of maps of the area, to mystery and science fiction to cooking.

When it comes to biographies, works on presidents like Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln are always popular, manager Andrew Acciaro told Patch. He also recommended Salinger, a biography of one of America's most loved authors. It was released this year.

"It's excellent. Salinger is such a powerful literary figure, he's very reclusive," Acciaro said of the author of Catcher in the Rye.

The copy at the shop is going for $19.

For young adults, there are plenty of series—including the ever-popular Harry Potter—to choose from. Acciaro said The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DeCamillo is a "great story," complete with illustrations. The price is $6.50.

And "people are always interested in literature," according to Acciaro. F. Scott Fitzgerald has been in demand since The Great Gatsby movie came out earlier this year. There's a "nice, old, hard copy" of The Crack Up, which Acciaro called a "really good story" by Fitzgerald. It's a collection of essays that tell of his struggle to regain success, and it's for sale at $7.50.
