Metro-North Service Stays Shut Down for the Storm

This morning, Metro-North stated on its website that its trains and all New York City subway and bus service are “suspended for the duration of Winter Storm Juno. Service will remain suspended for the foreseeable future.”

Non-emergency vehicular traffic is currently banned on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s nine bridges and tunnels.

Metro-North has issued this separate announcement on its website:

Metro-North service is suspended at this time as Winter Storm Juno moves through our region with blizzard conditions.

Temporary suspensions allow us to shelter our fleet during the worst of the storm, and permit our employees to make maximum use of snow removal equipment to clear drifting snow and ice from our tracks, switches and train yards. They also allow us to remove any fallen trees and power lines blocking tracks.

Also, employees can check signals, switches and power systems, which have to be operational before patrol trains can operate to ensure that the right-of-way is safe before resuming service.

Remember: Our first priority in any decision we make on service is your safety and comfort. Sometimes suspending service is the best way to meet that goal.
