Nuclear Energy Center Hearings, Sirens and an Energy Informational Session

Here are five things you need to know today, Oct. 16.

1.) Cortlandt Town Board
The Cortlandt town board is  meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in town hall, located on 1 Heady Street in Cortlandt Manor. A PDF of tonight’s agenda is attached to this story.

2.) Indian Point Resumes Hearings
The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will continue its evidentiary hearing for the license renewal application of the  Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan 9 a.m. today at the DoubleTree Hotel, at 455 South Broadway in Tarrytown. The session will go on this week through Thursday, before starting up again the weeks of  Oct. 22-24 and Dec. 10-14.

3.) Siren Test at Indian Point
The Indian Point Energy Center emergency notification sirens will sound during a test of the system on Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. During this test, the sirens will sound at full-volume for approximately four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties.

4.) Homeowner Education: Save Energy & Money
Energize Peekskill and the Peekskill Conservation Advisory Council is hosting a free discussion 7 p.m. tonight at the Field Library on how to get a free home energy assessment and find a contractor that can be trusted to do the work. Peekskill residents who have had their own energy assessments and home improvement work done will be on hand to share their experiences and answer questions. There are programs available for all income levels and there is even a program to help make home energy efficiency pay for itself. Light refreshments and free babysitting will be provided. Anyone who needs babysittings should arrive 15 minutes early.

5.) Peekskill School Board Meeting
The Peekskill school board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the district administration building. A copy of the agenda is available here.
