Peekskill Man Charged In Fatal Shooting: DA

Prosecutors said the man shot and killed a Poughkeepsie man who had just dropped off his child at the child's mother's home.

PEEKSKILL, NY — A Peekskill man was accused of fatally shooting Ernest Wilson, a 52-year-old Poughkeepsie man, in May.

Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah announced Monday that Reginald McClure, 39, of Peekskill, was arraigned on an indictment by a Westchester County grand jury that charged him with second-degree murder and four counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.

McClure was arraigned Tuesday in Westchester County Court and returned to the Westchester County Jail.

According to prosecutors, shortly after 7:30 p.m. May 21, in the area of Sherman Avenue and McKinley Street in Peekskill, McClure confronted and chased Wilson, while using a 9 mm firearm to shoot about six rounds, striking him twice in the arm and buttock.

Police said the shooting happened after Wilson dropped off his child with the child’s mother at their Peekskill home.

The child who was dropped off and another family member inside the home saw the shooting, according to authorities.

Wilson was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he died as a result of his injuries on May 24.

McClure was apprehended and arrested May 25 at a hotel in Yonkers, following an investigation by the Peekskill Police Department and the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force.

He was also charged with being in possession of two guns at the time of his arrest, police said.
